how does transactions made by traders affect directly and indirectly on the market ?

Quite simply it is a market to facilitate the exchange of product — in this case financial securities and currency (forex).

Think of a traditional flea market, swap meet or public bazaar reorganized into a Wal-Mart Shopping Center or a Mega Mall. In theory, the exchanges bring together all operators into a single place and then "force" them to trade goods under a specific set of rules and publish all trades in a public venue for everyone to see. At Wal-Mart everyone pays the same price and everyone gets to see that price upfront. At the Mega Mall everyone knows which stores allow negotiation, sales, & price variations and which stores do not. At a traditional bazaar everything is negotiable and you might get a very different price for the exact same item sold 5 minutes before at the same shop.

Exchanges are also generally heavily regulated by the countries in which the operate…often requiring significant front end and back end reporting by every legal entity operating within the exchange.

May 11 (Bloomberg) -- Richard Repetto, an analyst with Sandler ONeill & Partners LP, talks with Bloomberg's Julie Hyman about the outlook for uniform rules at all trading venues to deal with periods of financial-market stress.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell as much as 9.2 percent on May 6, its biggest tumble since the crash of 1987, before paring losses and closing down 3.2 percent. British stock exchange trading?

Are there any investors experienced at trading stocks on the London stock exchange? I got an application package in the mail from SELFTRADE.UK The y require NO minimum opening deposit/balance. Only sufficient funds to make actual trades. The commission is 12.50 pounds. When you do the USD/GBP conversion comes out to about $25.00. Even though some of the stocks listed on the FTSE fluctuate daily, weekly enough to make trading "seem" worth the effort (when you factor in the conversion rate)? They also offer mutual funds, unit trusts, etc. Would there interest rates factor into this? would this be profitable?

If you live in the US you can buy ADRs in many foreign companies, so there is no need to open a foreign account.
